Timbuktu

Timbuktu is a city in Mali in Northern Africa,
Timbuktu is just north of the Niger river.
Timbuktu became a permanent settlement
in the 12th century. Timbuktu has a population
of about 32,460.

This is a Camel I drew as my project for Timbuktu.
I decided to study Timbuktu as something to do while
I am at home. Instead of coloring the Camel it's normal
color, I decided to put things in the Camel to do with
Timbuktu. One of the things is a slab of salt another is
a great mosque, some of the other things are flowers,
mountains, and sand all from Timbuktu.

My dad once visited Timbuktu, so I gave him 10
questions to test his knowledge. The questions I gave him
were ones including; what is the capital of Mali? and how
many great mosque's are there in Timbuktu?

3 things I learnt about Timbuktu are that the first french
explorer to go to Timbuktu on foot was René-Auguste
Caillié , there are 3 great mosque's in Timbuktu and
that France took over Timbuktu in 1894.  I found all this

  1. Fantastic Caitlin, it's great to see you are keeping your learning going while you are at home. I thought the way you have presented your facts in the camel drawing was very creative. When I was younger I used to think that Timbuktu was a made up place but then I found out that it actually existed! I'm pleased you are keeping your dad's brain going too! I will continue to watch your blog to see what other learning you are doing.

  2. Caitlin I love your creativity and the details you put in your camel. You got Dad with a few of your questions which was funny.
